Magical Abilities
Daja is an ambient smith mage, which means that her power is rooted in the outside world - in her case, metals and fire - rather than from within herself. Essentially, while an academic mage (who draws solely on power from within themselves) would place spells by applying their magic to existing objects, ambient mages like Daja instead apply their magic within the object itself. Ambient mages also do not need protective circles or runes to work (although she can and does use these to give her workings structure - she's just capable of working without them). Her magic is more limited in range than an academic mages, but has the potential for more powerful workings.
As a smith mage, most of her magic revolves around manipulating metal. She can identify metals by touch alone, even if she can't see them, and also determine other information about the metals (such as any weaknesses or impurities it may have and even the origin of the metal if she has has encountered metals of a particular area before). She can also sense metals from a distance, though she can't receive as much information about them as she would through touch. (And while it's unclear in canon whether or not she senses metals near her all the time, or has to specifically concentrate on looking for them, for the purposes of rp I will be assuming that it's the latter.)
She can also magically manipulate metal, including shaping it and moving it physically with her mind. However, metal shaping by magic alone takes much of her strength, which is why she mostly uses traditional smithing methods.
If a piece of metal has gone through a particularly large event - for example, a metal bar that was thrown afield during an explosion - Daja can get images of what happened from the metal.
She can place spells on metals, such as ones to prevent the metal from rusting, or to bring strong blinding light to it. She can also renew and restore spells if they have degraded with time. (Making things like flaming swords and the like appears to be out of the question, though, as nothing of the like ever appears in the Circle universe).
As a result of brass melting on her left hand during a forest fire, Daja also has a "living metal" coating her palm. By taking scraps of this, and also by adding drops her her blood to normal metals, Daja can create more of this living metal. Living metal is warm and highly flexible, like skin. She has adapted it to a number of uses, such as making an artificial leg that moves like a real one, gloves that protect the wearer's hands from fire, and ear plugs and glasses that block out visions and voices that are seen and heard magically.
Daja's magic also allows her to manipulate fire. She can't create it, but she can weave fire, call it to her, and hold it in her bare hands. She is unaffected by fire and extreme heat, giving her the ability to walk through fire, see clearly though it, and to hold red-hot metals without being burned. Smoke has less of an effect on her than other people, although too much will hurt her throat. She can also use her magic to warm herself when it's very cold.
Other than her magical abilities over metals and fire, Daja has a few other magical abilities, many of which are a direct result of her magic being woven with that her of foster-siblings: Briar, Tris, and Sandry, who are plant, weather, and thread mages respectively. This gives her small elements of their power, lets her borrow strength from the others, and means she can talk to them mentally over long distances.
Thanks to her connection with Tris she can see magic, which appears as a kind of shimmering light. However, this just lets her see the presence of magic - it doesn't give her the ability to identify the spells.
Other than her foster-siblings, she can talk to other mages mentally. However, this requires physical contact, and a kind of connection between their magics (such as Frostpine, who is also a smith mage)
She can send out a kind of "magical sense", which is described as being much like astral projection (though never actually referred to as such in the books). She can't physically affect things, but she can sense and view things in this form.
Daja can also make magical barriers; however, this seems to be only against things which are connected to her magic, such as barriers that stop fire. She can't make shields in the traditional, "stopping attacks" sense.

Daja is a skilled blacksmith and whitesmith, meaning that she can manipulate metals through traditional means as well as through her magic.
She is also very good at staff fighting, having been taught by her uncles and later from Dedicate Skyfire. She also knows a few street-fighting moves from sparring with Briar, but she is primarily a staff-fighter. This, along with her work in the smithy, makes her a physically strong and capable young woman.
Daja is also shown to be a good teacher, having taught two young mages two different styles of meditation.
With her Trader background, Daja is a calm and savvy barterer. She can also ride horses and ice skate.
